4 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Rely on Feelings

Feelings are good. They can warn us of a future catastrophe, and they give us sudden moments of happiness and excitement. But what about when they lead us away from our heavenly Father? Doubts, fears, boredom (yes!), and confusion, are all the ingredients that prevent you from having the joyful days which the Lord intends on giving you. This morning as I was praying, Jesus sweetly revealed to me the not-so-sweet reasons why I shouldn't, in any case, rely on my wrong feelings.

1. God does not change! Malachi 3:6 says, "For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed." and again we can read it in Hebrews 13:8, "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." Yahweh does not fluctuate when our emotions are "all over the place", and He does not vary with our moods and sadnesses. He remains the same minute after minute, hour after hour, and day after day!

2. Feelings and emotions do not change the circumstances. Just because you are feeling depressed one particular day, does not mean that the world does. And as much as our circumstances shouldn't affect our joyfulness, neither should our sadness affect our actions. Spurs of gloominess and doubts are purely physiological. They are in our imaginations, they are not true! We ought to do as 2 Corinthians 10:5 instructs us, "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;"

3. Satan. If wrong feelings are not righteous, then they are not from God. 1 John 4:1 "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world." Satan is the father of all lies, and if our feelings and thoughts are not professing that Jesus is Lord and that He loves us more than anything, they are lies and they come from Satan himself. How much power we give him when we listen to him! It hurts him when we rebuke him, pray, open our Bible, and slam the Word of God in his face. It really does!

4. God is in control. Our Lord Adonai controls the whole universe- and that means yours too! He will not let you be shaken (Psalm 55:22, 112:6), and He holds your very hand through everything (Isaiah 41:13). How can we let our feelings dictate us? All doubts and fears melt away when we raise them up to Jesus. Our imagination is nothing compared to the power of the King of kings! No matter how many doubts and how much confusion is in my heart, I know that He holds my whole world in His hands, and nothing can ever separate me away from Him (Romans 8:31-39).

"Though our feelings come and go, God's love for us does not."
-C.S Lewis

Thank you Jesus for Your love and Your protection!! I pray that the Holy Spirit would give us a ready mind prepared to test every spirit, and to listen to our Sheperd's voice firstly and solemnly. We love you Lord!

In all sisterly love,
